Rehab Strategies for Patients With Chronic Conditions
July 21, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm MST
Medically complex patients are becoming more common in rehabilitation and are omnipresent even in the simplest patient diagnoses. According to the CDC CHF effects as many as 5.7 million Americans and about half die within 5 years of being diagnosed. As many as 11 million people in America have COPD which is the third leading cause of death in the US. According to the CDC 75 million Americans have high blood pressure which greatly increases risk for heart attack and stroke. Many of these patients are relegated to “low level” status because of “poor endurance” or tolerance for activity and given incomplete rehabilitation. Impairment or system-based thinking frequently leads to misinterpretation of test results and leads to inefficient interventions.
This hands-on, one-day workshop will equip the participant with effective, evidence-based techniques and concepts to successfully address the common issues found in medically complex patients that are often overlooked or misinterpreted. In addition, the participant will learn how the entire upper quarter impacts breathing capacity and be able to improve gross airflow which will lead to improved functional capacity. Participants will leave this course feeling significantly increased confidence in putting their hands onmedically complex patients knowing that these patients can indeed benefit from exercise and manual therapy approaches and be successful the very next day.
