SUMMARY:Understanding Girls and Women with Autism In A World Where They Are Often Overlooked And Misdiagnosed - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:While the manifestation and exhibited characteristics associated with autism spectrum disorder in females often appear different than for males\, females with autism are often misdiagnosed and overlooked altogether– requiring them to navigate a world predicated on social interaction without a proper diagnosis and relevant services. This training will discuss how autism manifests for females and clinical considerations for practitioners.

SUMMARY:Neuro-Developmental Therapy (NDT) to Optimize Functional Outcomes - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Treating children with any level of disability can present multiple challenges. There can be underlying issues that arenot immediately obvious. An in-depth evaluation is required to uncover what might be interfering with function. This course will present how to use the ICF (International Classification of Function) and the use of a systems approach to analyze the challenges a child presents. We will explore the basic principles of the Neuro development Treatment (NDT) practice model and the importance of hands-on treatment to make changes for improved function. \nWe will discuss the importance of strength and endurance in relation to increasing function. Therapists will become comfortable using a systems approach to explore multiple systems that could be interfering with function\, with a goal of understanding achievable goals for children of all levels of function. \nThe content of this program is germane to children\, students and clients ages birth-21 years old. \nHighlights\n\nExamine the benefits of using the Neuro- Developmental Treatment Practice Model to treat a child with neurologic impairments and other pediatric disorders across the lifespan\nFacilitation strategies for improved movement patterns and how to look at all aspects of the child to assess the primary areas influencing function\nUse of the Goal Attainment Scale to develop measurable baselines that enhance outcomes

SUMMARY:#7114 Treating the Shoulder Pain Free - Live Webinar
DESCRIPTION:One of the most important functional movements of the shoulder is active elevation. Restoring elevation in a time-efficient manner remains a challenging problem. The rehabilitation specialist needs to be a detective and figure out why a joint is not moving and/or what is causing the pain. Shoulder elevation is one of the most complicated movements in the body.  The treatment of a stiff and painful should not reproduce the pain that the patient has come to physical therapy to get ride of. f we analysis the shoulder motions it is made up of moving parts all responsible for the functional movement patterns that the joint allows. There are three major moving parts of the shoulder\, the scapula\, humerus\, and the clavicle\, making up three moving joints. The glenohumeral (G-H) and the acromio-clavicular (AC) are synovial joints\, where as the scapula-thoracic (ST) is a sesamoid bone floating around the ribs.  We believe that restoring rotation of the glenohumeral joint\, acromio-clavicular and scapula thoracic articulation before elevation is the safest and most efficient methods of treating patients with stiff and painful shoulders. Forcing a shoulder joint that is painful and stiff into elevation is dangerous. \n  \nInstructor:Robert Donatelli\, Ph.D\, PT

SUMMARY:Changing the ADHD Brain: Moving Beyond Medication - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Many of our clients diagnosed with ADHD prefer not to take medication. There are various reasons for this including side effects and concerns with long-term use. In this seminar\, you’ll learn more about these concerns\, as well as alternative interventions for ADHD. \nViewing ADHD from a developmental perspective\, we will consider the apparent increase in ADHD diagnoses over the past two decades. By understanding the way brains with and without ADHD function\, you’ll be able to better identify a variety of neurodivergent-affirming strategies to significantly impact the nervous system and better manage ADHD symptoms in your clients. \nNot only will you walk away with updates about evidence-based non-medication interventions for ADHD such as computerized cognitive training\, mindfulness meditation\, and neurofeedback\, you’ll also learn a variety of practical strategies that you and your clients can implement immediately and at low cost. \nWe’ll navigate the vast research on exercise\, movement\, diet\, sleep\, disruptive technologies\, supplements\, and the impact of the environment on ADHD\, summarizing the findings and applying the information to “real life”. You will leave this seminar with the tools and knowledge to develop a holistic approach to working with adults and children with ADHD.

SUMMARY:School-Based Documentation - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Documentation is the number one complaint of therapists. there is too much\, and too little time. There are Medicaid standards that must be followed to be reimbursed for treatment. With caseloads skyrocketing to over 100 students\, documentation can be overwhelming. Becoming more effective and efficient in your documentation while meeting the required standards is difficult. This course will use evidence-based practice and effective teaching methods to give learners hands-on strategies to incorporate into their practice setting. Participants will be able to recognize andexplain the Medicaid and clinical standards for documentation. Participants will also be able to document correctly and precisely with the charts\, shortcuts\, and hints provided. While this course is aimed at school-based therapists\, much of the information provided also applies tooutpatient providers. \nHighlights\n\nReview Medicaid and clinical standards for documentation\nAccurate and efficient documentation\, clinical observation\, data gathering\, templates\, and rationale

SUMMARY:#7362 Pediatric Balance - Live Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Few clinicians would argue that balance plays a big role in function\, but many do not realize it is a key determinant for both gross and fine motor function.  In fact\, it is more strongly correlated with motor function and self care than range of motion or strength.  This means that improving a patient’s balance has a strong chance of improving a patient’s motor function! \n  \nWhat is balance?  This is a challenging question to answer and participants who attend this course will be able to answer this question with confidence and apply the principles of balance to their treatments for immediate results with their patients. (Intermediate Level) \n  \nInstructor: Charter Rushing PT\, ScD\, COMT

SUMMARY:Pediatric Motor Planning - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Smooth and coordinated motor skills are not only a product of strong motor planning but also of sensory integration to elicit a coordinated motor response (Martel\, et al.\, 2022). Motor planning deficits can be lifelong\, and it is common for children with other diagnoses to have delays in motor skills. Motor planning delays can present in a variety of patterns from general discoordination or specific motor deficits such as gross\, oral\, or fine motor delays. Children with ADHD\, autism\, learning disabilities\, dyslexia\, or an intellectual disability often struggle with motor planning and coordination delays. Research conducted by Miller and colleagues in 2022 looked at the differences in body schema and motor learning abilities and found that children with developmental coordination disorders improved their motor control and coordination with the practice of motor skills. Learning about evidence-based research treatments and the best practices when it comes to children with motor planning disorders is essential to being the best pediatric practitioner you can be. This course uses evidence\, videos\, and case studies to learn the best practices when working with children with motor planning delays. \nHighlights\n\nReview the most up-to-date motor planning treatment strategies you can use right away\nImmediately reduce the negative effects of motor planning deficits for your clients and solidify your learning through videos and case examples which demonstrate effect on outcomes

SUMMARY:#7369 Understanding How Trauma Affects the Sensory Systems in Pediatrics - Live Webinar
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the course is to better understand skill vs will. Often\, children who grow up with adverse experiences face unrealistic expectations. This course will explore how the brain develops in relation to adverse experience and provide tools to help understand how to best encourage and support children who have experienced neglect or abuse. Tips will also be given to best support caregivers and professionals who work with children who often are resistive to therapeutic interaction due to lack of trust and felt safety. Attainment of common goals such as sleep\, nutrition\, overactivity\, and avoidance will be discussed. (Intermediate Level) \n  \nInstructor: Marti Smith\, OTR/L
