SUMMARY:Strengthening Executive Functioning Skills in Children with ADHD - Live Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Course Description\nChildren and teens diagnosed with ADHD have challenges in their executive functioning. These may show up as problems following directions or remembering a sequence of activities. Children may have difficulty learning from past mistakes\, staying focused for duration of a task\, or maintaining emotional control in stressful situation. They may struggle with organization of personal items or to-do lists\, with being flexible with unexpected changes\, and with managing their time efficiently. These difficulties\, in turn\, manifest into problems at home\, school\, work\, and with social skills. \nExecutive functioning skills are the missing link between intentions and action. In this presentation we will identify the executive functioning skills and discuss how they are impacted by ADHD and related neurodiverse diagnoses. We will identify how to evaluate executive functioning and discuss intervention strategies and ways that we can increase support to improve development of the executive functions throughout childhood and adolescence and into early adulthood. The participant will learn three ways to empower individuals of all ages to strengthen executive functioning skills. \nThis course is presented in lecture form with questionnaires and handouts developed by the instructor to assist the participant in working with children and families. \nCourse Objectives\nAt the end of this course\, the participant will be able to: \n\nDefine Executive Functioning and identify the executive skills\nList ways in which executive skills are impacted by ADHD and related diagnoses\nIdentify how to evaluate executive functioning skills\nDiscuss each skill in detail and identify intervention strategies to enhance development of executive skills\nDifferentiate common issues related to executive functioning skills across childhood and adolescence\nList 3 ways to structure treatment in order to empower individuals to strengthen their executive functioning skills

SUMMARY:Ocular Motor Skills and Their Effect on Learning: Challenges\, Testing and Remediation - Live Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Course Description\nHave you ever noticed that when a student has challenges with an activity like reading they start using their finger?  Why?  When we use our finger to help us read\, we are switching from saccadic movement (where as when we read we jump from one group of words to another group of words)\, to a fixation and pursuit (which is a smooth movement) which is not how we read.  What you are seeing is a symptom of an ocular motor problem.  Occupational therapists\, physical therapists and teachers need to be aware of these subtle changes that happen with our ocular motor skills throughout our activities in school.  Ocular motor skills have major effects on our children and our clients.  They affect reading\, writing\, functional movement\, and even crossing the midline.  This class is designed for professionals to recognize the importance of ocular motor skills and how they affect a child’s success.    This class educates a professional on the visual system\, motor system and their interaction.  It gives information on problems that present with ocular motility issues.  Finally\, it gives well established testing methods and real-world solutions to ocular motor challenges seen in our schools and home. \nCourse Objectives\nAt the end of this course\, the participant will be able to: \n\nDevelop an understanding of the visual system\, motor system and their interaction with ocular motility.\nIdentify challenges commonly linked to ocular motor problems seen in and with our students and clients.\nEvaluate and assess ocular motor challenges that affect reading\, writing and gross motor activities.\nImplement well researched treatment plans and strategies to remediate challenges seen with our ocular motor skills in our classrooms\, clinics and homes.\nUnderstand how to accommodate for common secondary issues associated with ocular motor challenges.
