SUMMARY:Incorporating Manual Therapy for Post-concussion Headache and Neck Pain - Live Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Course Description\nConcussion trauma may create lingering pain\, somatic and cognitive impairment for days to years post-injury.  Over 1.5 to 3.8 million people suffer from concussions in the US\, according to the CDC.  Post-traumatic headache (PTH) and whiplash associated disorders (WAD) are typical symptoms after accidents.  The resultant pain\, cognitive fog\, hypersensitivity\, spasm\, stiffness\, dizziness\, visual and vestibular motor disorders and even nausea or vomiting can be debilitating.  Symptoms may interfere with sleep and contribute to anxiety\, irritability and depression.  Evidence indicates the contribution of craniocervical myofascial tension and trigger points (TPs) to the persistent symptoms of PTH.  Manual therapy to address abnormal fascial tension and TPs is a key component in the management of PCH and WAD. \nInterventions including myofascial release/soft tissue mobilization\, massage\, acupressure\, positional release\, muscle energy and craniosacral therapy have been shown to effectively address the neuromusculoskeletal irritation and mobility impairments that characterize PTH.  Discover easy methods of soft tissue release you can apply immediately in your practice in this demonstration intensive course.  Discuss the evidence basis for incorporating manual therapy in a comprehensive plan of care to help people with PTH to live more healthy productive lives. \nCourse Objectives\nAt the end of this course\, the participant will be able to: \n\nDefine post-concussion syndrome and its relationship to post-traumatic headaches (PTH).\nDemonstrate 5 manual therapy interventions to manage PTH.\nDiscuss the evidence for manual therapy interventions for improving outcomes for people with PTH.

SUMMARY:Road to Independence: Assistive Technology in Transition Planning for Students with Complex Support Needs
DESCRIPTION:Assistive Technology (AT) devices and services can improve the ability of people with disabilities to participate independently in post-school settings\, including employment and education. There are many possibilities when it comes to AT\, but there is no “one size fits all.” Therefore\, AT options need to be individualized and based on a student’s personal needs and preferences. It is during their high school years that students with disabilities need to explore\, use\, and become proficient with the AT tools that will benefit them in their post-school lives. If AT is included in the transition section portion of their IEPs and used to support their measurable postsecondary goals\, students with disabilities will be more prepared for success when they move on to the next phase of life. Join us as we discuss the critical role Assistive Technology plays in that transition from high school to adulthood for students with Complex Support Needs.

SUMMARY:Mastering the Unified Protocol: A Transdiagnostic Approach to Emotional Disorders - Live Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Real clients don’t fit into simple diagnostic categories. And when clients come in with multiple issues\, it’s easy to fall into the “what do I treat first” trap. \nBut what if you could learn ONE protocol that gets to the heart of what creates suffering in every client with an emotional disorder\, regardless of diagnoses? \nDeveloped by Dr. David Barlow at Boston University\, the Unified Protocol (UP) cuts across traditional diagnostic boundaries to focus on key psychological processes underlying most mental health issues. Leave behind the confusion and frustration of chasing treatment order or switching between approaches – with the UP\, you will simultaneously reduce symptoms of co-occurring disorders\, all while improving your clients’ quality of life. \nIn this workshop\, Dr. Shannon Sauer-Zavala\, co-developer of the UP\, will walk you through 8 easy-to-learn modules and demonstrate how you can use UP principles flexibly to: \n\nHarness your clients’ motivation toward change\nTeach your clients to better understand and utilize the power of their emotions\nFacilitate cognitive restructuring exercises to enhance the clarity of your clients’ thinking and deciding\nRevamp your clients’ mistaken appraisals of triggering body sensations\nImprove your clients’ ability to be present and in charge of their behaviors\n\nRooted in the power of emotion-focused CBT and shown to be effective in over 70 rigorous clinical trials\, the Unified Protocol lets you get to the core of mental health issues and focus on your client – not labels.
