SUMMARY:Changing the ADHD Brain: Moving Beyond Medication - Live Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Many persons diagnosed with ADHD prefer not to take medication. There are various reasons for this including side effects and concerns with long-term use. In this seminar\, you will learn more about these reasons\, as well as alternative interventions for ADHD. \nLooking at ADHD from a developmental perspective\, we will consider reasons for the apparent increase in ADHD diagnoses over the past two decades. By understanding the way the brain works in ADHD\, you will be able to better identify a variety of strategies to significantly impact the nervous system and positively influence symptoms of ADHD in your clients. \nNot only will you walk away with information about some of the most common non-medication interventions for ADHD such as computerized cognitive training\, mindfulness meditation\, and neurofeedback\, you will also learn a variety of practical strategies that can be implemented immediately and at low cost. \nWe will navigate the vast research on exercise\, movement\, diet\, sleep\, disruptive technologies\, supplements\, and the impact of the environment on ADHD\, summarizing the findings and applying the information to “real life”. SUMMARY:Internal Family Systems Therapy: Step-by-Step Procedures for Healing Traumatic Wounds and Alleviating Anxiety\, Depression\, Trauma\, Addiction and More - Live Webinar
DESCRIPTION:After decades of clinical innovation and recent scientific research\, the empirically validated Internal Family Systems (IFS) model has been shown to be effective at improving clients’ general functioning and well-being. This effective model provides clinicians with procedures for helping clients with the most challenging mental health profiles to heal the wounded\, burdened\, and traumatized parts of their systems. \nThe IFS model provides a compassionate\, respectful\, non-pathologizing approach to understanding the organization and functioning of the human psyche. \nThe transformative IFS approach embraces and celebrates the natural multiplicity of the mind. Its assumption that every part of the system has good intention and valuable resources allows clinicians to approach even the most troubling of “symptoms” with compassion and respect. IFS offers therapists a powerful and effective set of tools for empowering clients with a wide range of clinical profiles to heal the wounded and burdened parts of their internal systems\, resulting in: \n\na way to enter clients’ inner ecology without the overemphasis on containment and stabilization\nsymptom reduction and improved functioning for clients\ndeep self-healing within even the most troubled clients\n\nIFS is a powerful treatment modality. Once you experience it\, you will want to incorporate it into your practice. \nThrough instruction\, video demonstration\, and experiential exercises\, Alexia D. Rothman\, Ph.D.\, Certified IFS therapist and colleague of Dr. Richard Schwartz (founder of IFS) will show you step-by-step how to apply the most effective\, empirically validated IFS interventions to help your clients connect with and understand their conflicting parts to facilitate deep\, lasting healing.

SUMMARY:Assistive Technology Integration for All Students - Live Internal PD Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:Greetings\, \nThe Assistive Technology (AT) team is excited to announce the 2022–23 National Presenter Series with Kelli Suding\, MEd. This workshop is designed for special educators and related service providers. \n“Assistive Technology Integration for All Students” \nDate: Tuesday\, October 25\, 2022 \nTime: 8:30 a.m.−3:30 p.m. \nFee: $17 (Lunch only) \nWhere: Laveen Elementary School District \nAddress: 5001 W Dobbins Road\, Laveen\, AZ 85339 \nAbout Kelli Suding \nKelli has a background in general education and special education classrooms. She holds a master’s degree in Learning and Technology with teaching licensing in both general and special education. Kelli has keynote\, national\, state\, and local presentation and training experience. She has a strong understanding of and ability to connect theory to practice. Her instructional experience has been with students requiring mild\, moderate\, and intense intervention. Kelli’s specializations include Universal Design for Learning\, Autism\, Accessible Educational Materials & Assistive Technology\, Google Chrome Accessibility & Integration\, and Specific Learning Disabilities. \n  \nWorkshop Description: \nAssistive Technology Integration for All Students \nCreating our classroom instruction with learner variability in the forefront will allow us to be mindful in meeting the needs of all of our students. Oftentimes\, the use of assistive technology is the appropriate accommodation to meet those needs. Statements such as “That’s cheating. They need to do that by themselves\,” are often comments aligned with the use of appropriate accommodations of accessible educational materials (AEM) and assistive technology (AT) for students with specific disabilities. But how can we promote a culture of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and at the same time step outside of our “No\, it’s not cheating\,” echo chamber to have meaningful conversations with educators who may see AT accommodations as a crutch? \n  \nThis workshop will explore ways to debunk the mindset of “it’s cheating” through personal stories\, understanding learning disabilities\, short simulations\, discussion of the different skill sets of reading\, and the “what” of accessible educational materials (AEM) and most importantly the “why.” Attendees will learn about and have access to free/low-cost simple AT tools for Mac\, PC\, iOS\, and Chrome extensions to turn classroom worksheets and documents into accessible formats\, instruction for independent student access\, and other assistive technology options. \nIf you have questions regarding this training\, please email our AT inbox.

SUMMARY:Reflex Integration - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Children with and without existing diagnoses are presenting with sensory and motor challenges due to persistent primitive reflexes. These children present with coordination\, balance\, and motor challenges that influence their ability to fully engage in meaningful play. Due to the influence on motor development\, the presence of reflexes also influences a child’s ability to fully participate in their home and school environments. \nThis relevant course emphasizes the need to evaluate the presence of reflexes\, motor development\, and sensory differences to develop an effective plan of treatment. Various hands-on opportunities to trial assessment tools and intervention strategies will be provided. We will also discuss the best practices for documenting treatment to support high impact interventions and illustrate the need for therapy services. This course is designed for physical therapists\, occupational therapists\, and speech-language pathologists who work with children to develop additional solutions to influence motor development and skill acquisition. \n*Hands on lab will be modified for Web based delivery formats into recorded demonstrations \nHighlights\n\nEffective\, evidence-based interventions for all sensory domains\nDifferentiating problematic sensory vs. motor difficulties using effective approaches to address persistent reflexes\nInteractive assessment strategies of reflexes and predict the influence on\nfunctional activities\nEvidence-supported treatments to influence activity performance and integration of reflexes\nFun\, engaging ways to address sensory and motor domains to improve functional performance
