SUMMARY:High-Functioning Autism: Proven & Practical Interventions for Challenging Behaviors in Children\, Adolescents\, & Young Adults - Phoenix
DESCRIPTION:This intensive\, full day seminar provides proven intervention strategies\, essential treatment tools\, and behavioral techniques to help you analyze behaviors and actions\, identify consequences for behaviors\, and teach new skills to children\, adolescents\, and young adults with high-functioning autism (HFA). Walk away with practical intervention techniques for social success\, behavior changes\, and overcoming challenging co-occurring behaviors that deliver success through adulthood. The challenging co-occurring issues to be addressed are: \n\nSocial and communication\nSensory\nAnxiety/Rigidity/Non-compliance\nADHD/ADD\nOCD\nPsychotropic medications\n\nGain valuable insight into common psychotropic medications\, including both the helpful effects and potentially problematic side-effects\, that these individuals are prescribed. We will explore the advantage of pro-social punishment as a new idea to target and help make changes to difficult behaviors. You will receive the tools necessary to gain effective collaboration between clinicians\, educators\, and parents. Through case studies\, video clips\, and class participation\, you will leave this seminar with the confidence to identify actions that cause impediments in change\, utilize more successful consequences for behaviors\, and teach new skills to children\, adolescents\, and young adults with HFA. Don’t just manage these individuals; provide interventions that lead to successful independence into their adult years!

SUMMARY:An Evidence-Based Approach to Stroke Rehab
DESCRIPTION:This one-day seminar provides practitioners with the foundations and tools needed to effectively get stroke survivors functional again. Participants will examine the etiology of gait deviations\, aphasia\, neglect\, and their influence on the rehabilitation process. Using principles of neuroplasticity and motor learning and the reinforcement of normal movement\, attendees will assess functional goals and treatments. Instruction will be provided to identify patients who would benefit from an ankle-foot orthosis. The class incorporates case study review\, video analysis\, and hands-on demonstration\, and equips participants with practical\, evidence-based techniques that can be applied in any treatment setting the next day.

SUMMARY:Early Dementia Predictors\, Assessments\, & Interventions: Maximize Therapeutic Outcomes
DESCRIPTION:By the year 2030 it is predicted that 20% of the population will be age 65 or older\, and the number of people suffering from dementia worldwide is expected to hit 76 million. There is a natural tendency for elderly individuals to become increasingly isolated and lose interest in daily activities. Some become more indecisive and lose the ability to concentrate\, causing psychomotor agitation and insomnia\, which leads to weight loss and decreased energy. The culmination of these symptoms is depression\, which is extremely common in preclinical Alzheimer’s disease and often a predictor that dementia may be on its way. These changes are so subtle that family members and caregivers often do not see the impact until it is beyond the stages of early dementia. \nIn this course attendees discover the important predictors of dementia and distinguish between the various types. Explore effective intervention strategies for each stage of dementia and identify proper depression screening tools. Caregiver education strategies will be provided and you will leave with multiple prevention and intervention approaches to implement in clinical practice immediately.

SUMMARY:Rotator Cuff Dysfunction: Functional Recovery from Impingement & Surgery
DESCRIPTION:This 1-day course will demonstrate how to be more innovative in your treatment planning\, examine functional approaches to rehabilitation of the kinetic chains\, and illustrate the benefits of incorporating evidenced-based approaches into your “bag of treatment tools.” Additionally\, attendees will examine rotator cuff injuries that occur at different points in the human lifespan\, as well as recommended treatment for each population. Why certain injuries are more common with particular age groups\, such as instability in teenagers and degenerative joint disease in aging patients\, will be examined as well. Course participants will explore protocols for pathology of the shoulder with “hands-on” lab sessions so they can return to their rehabilitation settings with applicable concepts and skills. Clinicians will come away excited about trying new\, practical techniques that produce results and\, in turn\, their orthopedic rehab patients will demonstrate a more positive attitude about their recovery.

SUMMARY:Lower Limb Amputation: Evidence-Based Interventions for the Early Stages of Recovery
DESCRIPTION:This one-day\, interactive course is intended for clinicians who work with less-than-ideal candidates for prosthetics\, and with patients whose functional independence does not rely on prosthetic use. The information also applies to clinicians with limited experience working with patients who have undergone LLA. In this course\, functional mobility issues are viewed through the lens of impairment-based treatment. The ideas in the course can be easily translated to a variety of patient populations\, and can be implemented preoperatively for patients who may undergo LLA due to vascular compromise. Attendees will leave with a tool box of evidenced-based formal tests specific to patient’s acutely post-LLA that can be performed postoperative Day #1.

SUMMARY:HIPAA & Medical Records Law: Meeting the Privacy & Security Regulations
DESCRIPTION:Now that the HIPAA compliance deadline has passed\, health care providers have been struggling to comply with the unique challenges this regulation brings. Forms and privacy notifications have become the norm in the health care industry. But is your practice covering all of its bases and ensuring that your patients’ information is protected? Do you know how to properly handle requests for medical records? Are you aware of the penalties that could result if reasonable safeguards are not taken? Do you know how to deal with sensitive records regarding information on minors\, AIDS\, and mental health?
