SUMMARY:"Break Through" Self-Regulation Interventions for Children and Adolescents with Autism\, ADHD\, Sensory or Emotional Challenges - Live Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Message from Your Presenter … \nNo one ever said that working with children with autism\, ADHD or sensory disorders is easy. Theo will only eat white foods\, tends to be buried in his own world and melts when he is transitioned too quickly. Steven\, in 6th grade\, has ADHD\, poor organization skills and an attitude that is hard to break through. But\, how do we help a child break through the self-regulation issues that limit their achievements? \nThat was the question I posed to myself twelve years ago. I set out to learn as much as I could about theories\, techniques\, and research that could help make the lives of these young people much more manageable and promising. I took intensive courses on multi-sensory approaches\, sensory integration\, self-regulation\, yoga\, autism\, ADHD and became a Certified Autism Specialist in 2016. I have extensive experience adapting these techniques to make them usable in a variety of settings while working closely with teachers\, aides\, child study professionals and parents. \nJoin me as I guide you through a broad set of self-regulation interventions culled from my years of research and practice along with strategies for adapting them to your setting. You will leave my program with the essential skills\, interventions and strategies to help children find harmony with themselves\, their families and the world around them! \nYou will learn: \n\nThe most effective calming\, sensory\, motor or behavioral techniques for a given type of behavior\nPeer-to-peer video feedback as a social intervention for children and teens with ASD\nSleep interventions for children with erratic sleep schedules\nInterventions for Repetitive and Restrictive Behaviors for a child with stereotypy\nOrganization strategies for home and school for teenagers with ADHD\nAnd more!

SUMMARY:The Get Permission Approach to Tube Feeding with Love
DESCRIPTION:You will learn to:\n\n\n\nIdentify different types of feeding tubes\, including: a nasogastric tube (NG tube)\, a gastrostomy tube (G-Tube)\, gastro-jejunal tube (G-J Tube)\, and a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube.\nImplement strategies to support the feeding relationship between parents and tube-fed children\nIdentify red flags that may indicate a need for changes in tube-feeding routines (including a child’s distress with feeding)\nIdentify when a child demonstrates readiness to transition off of a feeding tube.\nUnderstand the importance of internal motivation and factors that contribute to a child’s development of appetite\nUse tube feedings to help a child learn to eat orally\nIncorporate information from growth charts into treatment planning\nCollaborate with a child’s family and medical team in order to problem-solve tube feeding challenges\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCourse Description\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Permission is a trust-based approach to pediatric feeding intervention. This three-day (16.5 hours) long workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of feeding tubes using the Get Permission framework. Content will include an introduction to the mechanics of feeding tubes\, why a child may receive a feeding tube\, and how feeding tubes can be used to support a child’s growth. There will be a special emphasis on helping course participants learn how feeding tubes can be used to support the relationship between parents and their children. Participants will learn how feeding tubes can be used to promote emotional well-being of parents and support a child’s mealtime participation. A significant portion of the course will be devoted to helping participants develop clinical reasoning skills to identify when a child may be ready to transition off of a feeding tube and begin oral eating. Additional topics will include: The benefits of a homemade blended diet\, strategic use of hunger\, oral-motor skill acquisition\, and application of Get Permission strategies for treatment success. Video examples and real-life case studies will be used to help participants apply Get Permission principles to their own practice. This workshop is filled with practical mealtime and treatment suggestions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nCEU Info\n\n\n\n\n\nCertificates will be issued verifying participation in 16.5 hours of continuing education once full attendance has been verified. Please allow 1 week for certificates to be sent. Check with your professional organizations licensing bodies to determine exactly what may be accepted for you. This course is eligible for ASHA’s professional development hour requirements. You will not require ASHA pre-approval for this. See here [https://www.asha.org/certification/FactDef/] for more information. This course is eligible for AOTA credits. Please check your state’s guidelines for specific information about how this continuing education activity may apply to your state’s CEU guidelines. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAudience\n\n\n\n\n\nThis intermediate level course is appropriate for OTs\, SLPs\, PTs\, assistants\, educators\, early intervention providers\, parents/caregivers\, and other professionals (social workers\, nurses\, registered dieticians\, etc.) working with children with feeding tubes. Please contact us at hello@getpermissioninstitute.com  with any needs regarding accommodations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWhat is Get Permission?\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Permission is a relationship-based approach used to support families who have children with feeding challenges. The approach is rooted in the principles of responsive feeding and actively promotes a child’s autonomy while fostering connection\, trust\, and consistent communication between the child and caregiver. In this approach\, adults support children to “give permission” by demonstrating physical and emotional readiness for eating. Get Permission strategies are based on typical development and help children discover their internal drive to eat through appetite\, enjoyment\, and relationships. \nChildren who participate in feeding therapy using the Get Permission Approach develop the skill\, confidence\, and internal motivation they need to thrive. Families who adopt the principles of the Get Permission approach learn to respect a child’s individual differences while helping them to participate in mealtimes\, feel celebrated\, and develop a positive relationship with food. As a result\, children learn to try new foods independently and enjoy eating without pressure. Therapists who use Get Permission benefit from understanding how they might support parents and children in a pressure-free way that is rich with practical strategies for treatment.

SUMMARY:Manual Therapy for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome with Clinical Practice Guidelines - Live Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Course Description\nAre you frustrated by the lack of positive outcomes for your clients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS)?  Wish you had a better approach to offer?  It is time to see the light at the end of that dark carpal tunnel. \nSome clinicians simply continue the old modalities and exercise approach for CTS\, and watch their clients going for surgical decompression despite their best efforts.  Did you know there are established clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) to help you manage this debilitating condition more effectively?  Move beyond standardized rehab protocols and get a grip on CTS with manual therapy\, a key component of successful outcomes for people with CTS\, based on current CPGs.  Streamline your exam and treatment when you home in on what tests are critical to identify CTS\, what interventions really work\, and begin to incorporate those interventions into your plan of care rapidly. \nChronic strain and repetitive motion contribute to the inflammation of the flexor tendons and median nerve\, with resultant fascia restriction\, tingling\, numbness\, weakness\, pain and stiffness.  Managing the adhesions or scar tissue is key to restoring better mobility and function\, to allow clients to tolerate exercise and activities with less pain.  Integrate quality manual interventions with appropriate bracing and client education for successful results.  Accelerate recovery with proven assessment and therapeutic techniques based on the latest CPGs for CTS and feel the satisfaction of success. \nCourse Objectives\nAt the end of this course\, the participant will be able to: \n\nRecognize signs and symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS)\nList 5 risk factors for CTS\nList 5 examination tools for CTS\nPerform an assessment of progress to document response to CTS treatment\nSummarize clinical practice guidelines (CPG) for CTS\nDescribe 7 manual therapy interventions to address CTS impairments\nImplement a plan of care for CTS using manual therapy in order to restore mobility and function\nDiscuss current research on manual therapy for CTS
