SUMMARY:Enhancing Executive Functions - Live Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Have fun and learn activities you can put into practice right away. Strengthen your pediatric clients’ executive function using evidence-based strategies that are concrete and easy to implement. Activities can be tailored for all ages and diagnoses. This course will provide a brief description of what executive functions are and how to address them. Assessment tools will be described to enable clinicians to appropriately measure executive function abilities. Participants will gain insights into the current evidence base for executive function interventions\, covering key approaches like exercise\, meditation\, and computer-based techniques. We will engage in a collaborative brainstorming session to develop creative ideas for embedding these interventions into client-centered activities. A step-by-step intervention protocol derived from the research will be presented\, demonstrating how to embed executive function intervention into meaningful tasks and providing participants with practical strategies to take into their clinical practice. The theory behind the intervention will be discussed so that therapists can understand the “why” behind the “what.” Participants will walk away equipped with practical strategies to elevate their clinical practice. \nThe content of this program is germane to children\, students and clients 7-14 years old. \nHighlights\n\nImmediately implement evidence-based techniques to improve executive function abilities in your pediatric client\nAcquire practical assessment and treatment strategies tailored to address executive function deficits effectively

SUMMARY:#7157 Releasing the Frozen Shoulder - Live Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Shoulder pain is prevalent in between 2.4% and 26% of the population\, resulting in significant financial burden\, pain and loss of quality of life. According to the APTA’s Clinical Practice Guidelines\, mobilization and exercise are important components of shoulder pain management. Too often clinicians are ready to perform joint manipu-lation/mobilization with disregard for the soft tissue component of the stiff shoulder. Myofascial restrictions may limit shoulder mobility and function and must be addressed as part of a plan of care. When fascia becomes scarred from inflammation\, injury\, postural habits or disease\, its tension adversely impacts functional mobility and physical activity. Manual therapy may include myofascial work to release tension and pain and restore mobility and function. Identify fascial restrictions using motion testing and palpation. Apply specific manual and movement interventions to address mobility deficits\, improve circulation\, and decrease pain in people presenting with shoulder pain and mobility deficits to achieve improved functional outcomes. \n  \nInstructor: Theresa A. SUMMARY:Emergent Literacy - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Nationally only 35% of public school students are reading at or above grade level. Literacy starts at birth as the parts of our brain that process language are the same ones that are repurposed to learn to read. Research has found that supporting children through early intervention when brain plasticity is highest can provide the foundation for learning to read before children enter kindergarten. Many parents need extra support in learning how to read to their children in ways that promote motivation and learning. Attendees will learn evidence-based strategies to add to their therapy toolbox and recommended books with which to implement these strategies. \nHighlights\n\nDiscover strategies to support the building blocks of emergent literacy including phonological awareness\, print knowledge\, vocabulary\, and comprehension\nReview the research on the connection between language disorders in early childhood and literacy outcomes in school\nDescribe how to choose the best books to promote emergent literacy

SUMMARY:Unraveling Persistent Postural Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD) - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Persistent postural perceptual dizziness (PPPD) is a recently defined diagnostic syndrome characterized by chronic symptoms of dizziness\, unsteadiness\, and/or non- spinning vertigo. While PPPD is a recently identified disorder\, syndromes characterized by dizziness triggered by motion or visually stimulating environments have been documented in medical literature as far back as the 1870s. People with PPPD struggle with challenges in sensory weighing due to problems with readaptation following an acute vestibular episode. This significantly impacts their quality of life (QOL)\, including higher anxiety and stress levels. In this course\, we will understand the pathophysiology/diagnostic criteria of PPPD and will explore the effectiveness of a multimodalapproach\, incorporating selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI)\, serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRI)\, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)\, and vestibular therapy. \nHighlights\n\nAcquire practical treatment techniques tailored to the treatment of persistent postural perceptual dizziness (PPPD)\nEasy-to-use assessment and outcome measures that are directly relevant to functional deficits\, underlying conditions\, and co-morbidities related to PPPD

SUMMARY:"Break Through" Self-Regulation Interventions for Children and Adolescents with Autism\, ADHD\, Sensory or Emotional Challenges - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Message from Your Presenter … \nNo one ever said that working with children with autism\, ADHD or sensory disorders is easy. Theo will only eat white foods\, tends to be buried in his own world and melts when he is transitioned too quickly. Steven\, in 6th grade\, has ADHD\, poor organization skills and an attitude that is hard to break through. But\, how do we help a child break through the self-regulation issues that limit their achievements? \nI discovered this was a simple question with a complex answer. I set out to learn as much as I could about theories\, techniques\, and research that could help make the lives of these young people much more manageable and promising. I took intensive courses on multi-sensory approaches\, sensory integration\, self-regulation\, yoga\, autism\, ADHD and became a certified autism specialist in 2018. I have extensive experience adapting these techniques to make them usable in a variety of settings while working closely with teachers\, aides\, child study professionals\, and parents. \nJoin me as I guide you through a broad set of self-regulation interventions culled from my years of research and practice along with strategies for adapting them to your setting. You will leave my program with the essential skills\, interventions and strategies to help children find harmony with themselves\, their families\, and the world around them! \nYou will learn: \n\nThe most effective calming\, sensory\, motor or behavioral techniques for a given type of behavior\nPeer-to-peer video feedback as a social intervention for children and teens with ASD\nSleep interventions for children with erratic sleep schedules\nInterventions for repetitive and restrictive behaviors for a child with stereotypy\nOrganization strategies for home and school for teenagers with ADHD\nAnd more!\n\nI look forward to seeing you there! SUMMARY:#7307 Pediatric Brain Part 2: Neurobiology of Emotional Regulation and its Appl - Live Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Motivations\, Inc.\nFor course dates\, times and registration\, please visit: www.motivationsceu.com\nSUMMARY: Emotional regulation is the basis of connection\, safety\, relationships\, and a child’s successful engagement\nin their daily occupations of school\, play\, activities\, and social and family connections. This class will dive into the\nneurobiology of emotional regulation. We will discuss the neurobiology of the limbic system\, including the thalamus\,\ninsula\, and right frontal cortex as these systems work together to support emotional regulation. We will learn about the\nbalance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems as well as Polyvagal Theory and its connection to these\nsystems. We include discussion on the somatosensory system because of its close connection to supporting regulation.\nTreatment strategies to support both regulation and co-regulation will be provided to allow therapists to confidently\nintegrate the information learned. It does not matter what our specialty is as a therapist\, if we cannot build therapeutic\nrapport with our pediatric client\, the level of our success with them will be limited. Understanding the root of emotional\nregulation and how to support it will elevate your treatment to the next level.\nThis course has been modified from the original 14-hour Pediatric Brain Course taught for the past 15 years. It can be\nviewed individually and also works well as a series with Parts 1 and 3\, as well as in conjunction with the Primitive Reflex\nIntegration Course. SUMMARY:Traumatic Brain Injury - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:A traumatic brain injury (TBI) is an injury that can occur from a bump or blow to the head\, or when an object goes through the skull and enters the brain. Because the brain controls all that you do\, a TBI can cause many problems that can affect several aspects of day-to-day life. Much will depend on the severity of the injury and what part of the brain was injured. Regardless of the type and severity of the TBI\,damage to the brain occurs immediately at the time of injury. Later\, a person who has suffered a TBI may develop seizures or brain swelling. \nA TBI may cause one or more of the following problems. These problems can affect how a person functions in school\, at work\, and during everyday activities. The following will be addressed in regard to causes\, symptoms\, assessment\, and treatment: \n\nPhysical problems – fainting\, seizures\, headaches\, dizziness and vomiting\, problems with balance\, and muscle weakness.\nSensory problems – sensitivity to light\, sound\, and touch; hearing loss or ringing in the ears; changes in vision or double vision.\nBehavior changes – being more emotional or feeling anxious or angry; feeling depressed or experiencing mood swings.\nProblems with thinking skills – difficulty paying attention\, recalling information\, and learning new information; difficulty planning\, setting goals\, and problem- solving.\nSpeech and language problems – problems being understood because of weak speech muscles (dysarthria) or problems controlling speech muscles (apraxia); problems understanding what others say or what you read; problems finding the words to say.\nSocial communication issues – difficulty following conversational rules\, like taking turns and not interrupting; difficulty understanding nonverbal cues\, like when someone rolls their eyes.\nSwallowing problems – trouble chewing or coughing and choking when eating or drinking.\n\nHighlights\n\nDescribe the causes and symptoms of a traumatic brain injury and how these can affect aspects of diagnosis and treatment within your specific discipline\nApply knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic options when designing functional treatment plans for patients with a traumatic brain injury

SUMMARY:Pediatric Motor Planning - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Smooth and coordinated motor skills are not only a product of strong motor planning but also of sensory integration to elicit a coordinated motor response (Martel\, et al.\, 2022). Motor planning deficits can be lifelong\, and it is common for children with other diagnoses to have delays in motor skills. Motor planning delays can present in a variety of patterns from general discoordination or specific motor deficits such as gross\, oral\, or fine motor delays. Children with ADHD\, autism\, learning disabilities\, dyslexia\, or an intellectual disability often struggle with motor planning and coordination delays. Research conducted by Miller and colleagues in 2022 looked at the differences in body schema and motor learning abilities and found that children with developmental coordination disorders improved their motor control and coordination with the practice of motor skills. Learning about evidence-based research treatments and the best practices when it comes to children with motor planning disorders is essential to being the best pediatric practitioner you can be. This course uses evidence\, videos\, and case studies to learn the best practices when working with children with motor planning delays. \nHighlights\n\nReview the most up-to-date motor planning treatment strategies you can use right away\nImmediately reduce the negative effects of motor planning deficits for your clients and solidify your learning through videos and case examples which demonstrate effect on outcomes

SUMMARY:#7362 Pediatric Balance - Live Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Few clinicians would argue that balance plays a big role in function\, but many do not realize it is a key determinant for both gross and fine motor function.  In fact\, it is more strongly correlated with motor function and self care than range of motion or strength.  This means that improving a patient’s balance has a strong chance of improving a patient’s motor function! \n  \nWhat is balance?  This is a challenging question to answer and participants who attend this course will be able to answer this question with confidence and apply the principles of balance to their treatments for immediate results with their patients. (Intermediate Level) \n  \nInstructor: Charter Rushing PT\, ScD\, COMT
