SUMMARY:Neurological Rehabilitation Through Motor Learning
DESCRIPTION:Over the past twenty years therapy professions have steadily integrated psychological research into practice. We now seamlessly use motor learning concepts when we discuss interventions. Concepts of practice paradigms and feedback delivery are standard knowledge for therapists. Fortunately\, however\, the research world is not stagnant\, and we are now seeing revolutionary new ideas that are advancing our understanding of how people learn and develop motor skills. This course delves into this evidence and applies it to therapy practice in effective and practical ways. \nBy the end of this course\, you will be able to improve outcomes for your patients with neurological impairment by improving learning and performance through both mutual partnership with your patients and using engaging intervention strategies. Participants will build their autonomy and self-efficacy leading to better carry over and ownership of their rehab process. This course will enhance patient focus and attention to task through motivation and goal directed task building. \nTarget Audience: Physical Therapists\, Physical Therapist Assistants\, Occupational Therapists\, Occupational Therapy Assistants

SUMMARY:Addressing Dysphagia With Pulmonary Dysfunction (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Oropharyngeal dysphagia is highly prevalent among patients with chronic respiratory diseases\, and may also cause subsequent respiratory complications\, such as respiratory infections and pneumonia. Other contributory factors include impaired breath-swallow coordination\, muscle dysfunction\, reduced sensitivity\, higher risk of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)\, and effects of commonly prescribed medications and lethargy. \nThis course shares research-based evidence and practical applications to best understand and treat clients who have dysphagia\, secondary to pulmonary dysfunctions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Content will initially include the risks and common triggers for dysphagia as a result of COPD and other pulmonary diseases\, as well as the common side effects of medications often prescribed for pulmonary disease\, which may also affect swallowing and cognitive functions. Targeted strategies will be shared for prevention and treatment of dysphagia for this population\, focusing on reducing symptoms\, slowing disease progression\, improving quality of life\, and minimizing exacerbations will then be discussed. Participants will learn key assessment factors\, sample treatment goals\, risks and safety precautions related to diet and thickened liquids\, breathing strategies\, and review a detailed chart of evidence-based intervention strategies with the supporting rationale for each. \nTarget Audience: Occupational Therapists\, Occupational Therapy Assistants\, Speech-Language Pathologists

SUMMARY:Practical Intervention Strategies for Pathological Deman Avoidance (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Pathological Demand Avoidance is a newer diagnosis. Is this just a fancy term for students who do not want to work? How does this compare/contrast with Oppositional Defiance Disorder? All of these are questions raised by this new disorder. \nPathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) presents significant challenges in the classroom\, both in self-contained and mainstream classes. Students who exhibit symptoms of PDA disrupt the learning environment of their classmates\, have difficulty gaining new skills\, and create challenges for teachers and support staff who are trying to deliver lessons\, and maintain order in their classes. As rehabilitation professionals\, we can provide strategies to alleviate behavioral issues associated with PDA and engage children who have it to improve outcomes in treatment sessions\, the classroom and at home. This course will provide an overview of the PDA diagnosis and assessment techniques that will help therapists differentiate from other diagnoses. \nThe content of this program is germane to children\, students and clients ages 3-18 years old. \nTarget Audience: Occupational Therapists\, Occupational Therapy Assistants\, Speech-Language Pathologists

SUMMARY:School-Based Documentation (Live-Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Documentation is the number one complaint of therapists. there is too much\, and too little time. There are Medicaid standards that must be followed to be reimbursed for treatment. With caseloads skyrocketing to over 100 students\, documentation can be overwhelming. Becoming more effective and efficient in your documentation while meeting the required standards is difficult. This course will use evidence-based practice and effective teaching methods to give learners hands-on strategies to incorporate into their practice setting. Participants will be able to recognize andexplain the Medicaid and clinical standards for documentation. Participants will also be able to document correctly and precisely with the charts\, shortcuts\, and hints provided. While this course is aimed at school-based therapists\, much of the information provided also applies tooutpatient providers. \nTarget Audience: Occupational Therapists\, Occupational Therapy Assistants
