SUMMARY:ArizOTA Pediatric School-Based SIS Event - Zoom
DESCRIPTION:  \nLearning Outcomes:\n\nParticipants will identify the basic tenets of the Occupational Therapy Profession that are central to the OTPF-4.\nParticipants will improve their skills at collaborating with other disciplines that use language that defines occupational therapy.\nParticipants will describe how Mental Health Promotion within occupation can be supported in schools.\nParticipants will learn about the use of health management as an occupation\, and its role in sensory processing.\n\n\n\nUsing the OTPF-4 to define and guide school practice: health\, well-being\, and participation; what our students need.\n\nAbout the Speaker: \nJennifer’s interest in school-based practice began with studying evidence-based practices in sensory integration and processing. This work included a Master’s paper on training paraprofessionals\, grant work on incorporating regulation tools in general education\, and work with Diana Henry on piloting Quick Tips. More recently\, after obtaining an OTD from St. Catherine University\, her interests have included regulation and mental health practices in school settings. This work has led her to co-teaching SEL and advocating for the use of occupations and a broader view of occupational therapy in schools. In her spare time\, she enjoys being outdoors\, being with family and friends\, reading\, and playing with my dogs.Paula Stommes. a longtime pediatric occupational therapist and assistive technology professional who in the last 3 years obtained her Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree from St. Catherine University\, and works at Hopkins School District in Hopkins\, MN as well as at an outpatient clinic.   She’s passionate about working with children and families\, facilitating skill development enabling their enjoyment of all aspects of life.
