SUMMARY:Engaging Neurodivergent Young Adults in Outpatient Therapy - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Neurological differences are people differences. All too often clinicians approach clients thinking about a diagnosis instead of thinking about the person’s interests\, strengths\, and potential skill contribution to society. Career development and independence in adulthood can be reinforced by all stakeholders in the life of a teen/young adult including rehab professionals. Learn a new model for interacting through collaborative coaching. This course will provide more than just treatment plans for teen/young adults in outpatient therapy. Participants will build a relationship with young adult patients that reinforces\, empowers\, and turns autonomy back into the hands of our youth for their future. We will go over assessment tools for this population and discuss concepts tohelp improve job retention and attainment for young adults with learning differences. 85% of young adults who are Autistic are unemployed or working part-time positions that do not align with their career interests. Learn what you can do as a clinician to change this statistic. \nHighlights\n\nCo-active coaching and engagement strategies for older teens/young adults in therapeutic sessions\nCommon misconceptions related to Autism/ADHD.\nAssessments to use with teen/young adult populations\nImprove relationships with parents and families for support during adulthood transitions
