DESCRIPTION:In the technology-boosted post COVID-19 world\, individuals\, families\, and school districts are easily influenced to purchase AAC products that do not necessarily fit the needs of the individual. AAC is abandoned 30% – 50% of the time when the device does not meet the need of the user. This course examines the basics of AAC assessment and the premise for matching AAC tools\, language\, physical accessibility needs and device types to avoid improper and/or ineffective placement of AAC. DESCRIPTION:Course Description\nWe are living in a society where we are seeing more and more of our kids\, especially from a low socioeconomic background\, struggle with reading.   Why?  Is Dyslexia becoming more prevalent?  In this class we will not only develop an understanding of what Dyslexia is\,  but we will also identify and delve into one of the three major differences seen in a Dyslexic brain.   Class 2 examines the most challenging subtype of Dyslexia\, reviews testing and diagnosis\, and provides well researched treatment strategies to get the best treatment outcomes. \nCourse Objectives\nAt the end of this course\, the participant will be able to: \n\nExplain the Lateral Column Theory of Dyslexia and the areas of the brain affected.\nIdentify how this type of Dyslexia affects a student’s world\, their home\, community and classroom.\nDetermine what is the complete testing process for Dyslexia and why one test by itself cannot correctly identify Dyslexia.\nChoose a treatment plan and treatment strategies that address the primary challenges seen in dyslexia (reading\, spelling and writing) and the most common secondary challenges seen (visual perception\, cross dominance\, and ocular motility).\nSummarize why synchronization activities are essential for success and recognize the treatment progression for the most effective outcomes.
